Lily is officially 2 and 1/2 years old! I can't believe how much she has changed in just the past few months. I used to get excited when she used 3-4 words sentences and now she talks like a grown up girl! I don't even count the words anymore. Sometimes I just have to laugh at what comes out of her mouth too. My recent favorites are:"My tummy is making noise. It growls like a tiger, growl, growl!"
"Hi Audrey! Did you have a good nap?"
"Bye! I'm going shopping. See you later!"
"I'm a Tinker Fairy! (me-"you're a tinker fairy?") No, I'm Lily!"
"Oh my, it's chewy!"
"Yikes!"
Lily is obsessed with puzzles lately! She got a few 25 piece puzzles for 3+ year olds for Christmas. She is getting so good at them, she is close to being able to do them completely by herself. Her favorite is a two-sided Sesame Street puzzle and I can't even count how many times we've done that one! She still loves Play Doh and especially enjoys when we make food out of it. The other day we made cookies, pizza, and pancakes and then she brought them over to her kitchen on a plate and "warmed" them up in the microwave. "I'm makin' them hot!", she said. She still enjoys coloring and painting and she seems to be a lefty. Every now and then she'll use her right hand, but mostly she uses her left.
Lily has been very into Tinkerbell lately. Auntie Nicole gave her a Tinkerbell sticker book for Christmas and then we rented the movie. She knows all of the characters and of course this is what caused the "Tinker Fairy" quote from above. She loves her Tinkerbell blanket on her bed even more now! Lily has also been loving everything Christmas. Believe it or not, I still have not taken down our tree and decorations, so this is prolonging the holiday a bit longer. She loves singing "Rudolph", "Frosty", and of course "the Twelve days of Christmas". She knows almost the whole song by heart (I barely knew them until I started singing it with her 50 times a day!). She also loves her Christmas-themed books, which will be hard for me to put away. I know it's time to end Christmas, but it's hard to since she loves it so much. We'll have to move on to Valentine's Day:)
The biggest battle with Lily is food. She has become a VERY picky eater and it was getting worse. So, we'd finally had enough. We had cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and asparagus one night and she refused to eat it. She used to love spaghetti with red sauce and it was just ridiculous since we knew if she tried it, she would like it. That is the annoying thing, she won't even try things...things that any kid would love to eat! So, we wrapped it up and she went to bed without dinner. Then, in the morning I warmed it up and offered her the pasta and green beans (which she used to love and had also stopped eating). She refused, so I put it back in the fridge again. Then she was hungry and asked again to eat at around 11:00. I warmed it up again and she still wouldn't try it, but she didn't want to get out of her chair. So, I gave her toast with peanut butter and jelly (she has not/will not eat peanut butter). She was so hungry, she took a bite and then shuddered and spit it out. She really does not like peanut butter so I probably won't push that too much. Finally, I convinced her to get out of her chair if she wasn't going to eat. As soon as her feet hit the floor, she reached for her beans. I warmed them up again and she devoured them like candy! The whole time, she was saying "Mmmm, yummy" between bites. I could barely keep from laughing. Then, I asked it she wanted to try the pasta. So I warmed up a few tortellini with just Parmesan cheese on them. She ate those like candy too! Then she asked for more. I asked how many and she wanted three. Then after finishing those, she wanted 4, then 5, then 8! It really was ridiculous that she had to go almost 24 hours without eating before she would try something like cheesy pasta! Since then, she has been a little more willing to try things. We've only done one more long stand off like the pasta one. It's frustrating, but we have to stick with it since she needs to try new foods and eat more than just chicken nuggets, fruit and cheese!
We still have Lily in her crib since hasn't tried to climb out and I'm unwilling to rock the boat since she continues to be a pretty good sleeper. She has had a little trouble with her naps recently, which I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't mean she'll drop it. Sometimes, she just won't fall asleep for a long time. We leave her up there because she needs some quiet time regardless if she sleeps or not. Most of the time she eventually falls asleep, but it can take over an hour and a half sometimes. Then she'll sleep for over two hours so she clearly still needs it. I think she's only skipped a nap entirely a few times and there is usually a good reason (like Christmas!). Recently, I started making sure I warn her naptime is coming 30 minutes or so ahead of time and we wind down with a book or two. That seems to have helped her falling asleep. She's been sleeping about 2.5 hours for her nap (sometimes longer). She's started sleeping a little less at night, but I won't complain since I really need those precious minutes in the afternoon when both girls are sleeping. Part of what I think has caused some of her sleep disruptions (at night and during her nap) is her nagging cough. It happened last winter too. She got a cold around Thanksgiving and the cough just never completely went away. It's mostly a nighttime cough so I've been running a humidifier in her room the whole time. Who knows if that's doing anything. It hasn't been bad enough to use the nebulizer, but I've been tempted. It seems to be getting a little better and it just might take the seasons changing for her to get better. Hopefully, it's not a sign that she'll have allergies or asthma later!
Lily enjoying a cocoa crackle cookie.
Lily got a Sesame Street cookie cookbook from Nana and Papa for Christmas and she loves it so much she reads it like a book. I discovered she really enjoys cooking and baking first when I made a pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving and let her help. Our first attempt at cookies from her new book were the "Cocoa Crackles". Our kitchen was COVERED with powdered sugar, but Lily had fun and they sure were tasty! Next on the menu is "Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies". Can you tell she likes chocolate like her mother?
Yummy cookies!

I'll finish with a few stats even though Lily doesn't have a doctor's appointment until she's three. She weighs over 31 lbs and I think is over 36 inches tall. She is in 4T shirts and is now moving into 4T pants too. I think she had another growth spurt a few weeks ago so her 3T pants are looking a little short. I was hoping they would last the winter, but we'll see. That's all for now!

I love the Lily-isms!! I got such a good giggle out of those!
That Silly Lily! Thank you for the update on everything in Lily's world.
Auntie Nicole
She's such a sweetie Ang. I had such fun with her when I came over last time. I'll have to bring chocolate milk with me everytime - just to see her so excited.
