I know this is not the best picture, but I was trying to catch one of Audrey's smiles. She started smiling almost two weeks ago. In general, she is becoming more interactive which is so wonderful! Audrey is about 7 and 1/2 weeks as I'm writing this (I'm a little behind posting as usual). It's too bad I didn't write this two days ago, because I would have been a lot more positive sounding! Audrey barely slept more than 15-20 minutes all day on Tuesday so she ended up very cranky and fussy at the end of the day. Then last night she was up about 4 times in the night. It was like she was a newborn again! The frustrating thing, is I have no idea why. Audrey WAS getting better with her fussiness and starting to go longer between feedings at night. In general, she was going 6, even 7 hours between the first night feeding and then another 3-4 after that. The bad thing is that she thought the night started at 6:30-7:00pm so I could never take advantage of this stretch since Lily was still awake. I tried waking her up again at 10:30 or so to feed her again, hoping she would go a long stretch after that, but that didn't necessarily work. I know Lily was a much better sleeper at the point and had fallen into more of a schedule/trend. Every time I think Audrey is, she switches it up. Argh! I hope it will get better soon!
Another reason Audrey is getting better is that she has started getting sleepy after/during feeding sometimes. I remember Lily always falling asleep eating, but Audrey get's riled up a lot of the time because she's so uncomfortable with gas and needs to be burped a lot. That's why it takes me at least an hour when she gets up in the middle of the night. I hope her GI track is getting more mature though and that will get better. I don't think I wrote about this, but I did take Audrey in a couple of weeks ago to see a nurse practitioner/lactation consultant to see about possible acid reflux problems and the smacking noise she makes when nursing. We decided not to try reflux meds so I guess she's just fussy. Also, the NP was not worried about her nursing "style". I guess it's just her quirk! She weighed over 10lbs at this appointment so she's obviously gaining weight fine.
Okay, I should end this post on a more positive note! Like I said at the beginning, Audrey is becoming more interactive and animated. It's so nice to get a little reaction back, like a smile. She also started making some new pleasant noises like cooing and making a "grrr" sound. Sometimes is almost sounds like she's laughing!
